EACFILT driver must be enabled on interface

If you see this article, chances are you are running CVC(Nortel's Contivity VPN software) on the latest version of Windows XP professional. The error message in the title is anoying because the eacfilt driver is shown as bound to the adapter, reinstalling the VPN software won't solve the problem. You may think there's something wrong with the latest version of CVC, try the older one. The same anoying message popped up.
Now you google the error message, you may find some mediocre support fellow implied that the eac filter driver may conflict with Virtual PC or VMWare's virtual network adapter driver.

Now I tell you how to solve the problem. Open driver manager, you will see an adapter named Eacfilt Miniport # , reinstall the driver of this adapter using the inf files under CVC's installation directory. When it's done, this adapter disappears. So whenever you see this adapter, there's a problem associated with the error message in the title. (Normally this adapter is hidden).

I am writing this article to save thousands CVC users time. But the folks in Billerica, MA are just not smart enough or too busy to put this in the release notes of CVC.
There are millions of people running an either legal or illegal version of windows. But they may run into the same situation when something breakes and there's no clue to help determine the cause. Lots of time is wasted reinstalling the software or even the operating system, or even worse calling the mediocre support. This is a typical frustration for any one in the IT industry.
I hope this blog can make people's life easier and save them time.
